In-Situ Observation of Steel/Slag/Inclusion Interaction by Means of High-Temperature Confocal Scanning Laser Microscopy

چکیده

Non-metallic inclusions (NMIs) in steels have been the focus of various experimental studies due to their detrimental character. While isolated processes, such as agglomeration or dissolution, well investigated, holistic in-situ views with high-temperature confocal scanning laser microscopy (HT-CSLM) rare. In this work a novel and suitable method is presented simultaneously observe agglomeration, movement, detachment, dissolution non-metallic by combined melting steel slag dual-crucible approach. Therefore, different steel/slag combinations were tested. It shown that, transparent that does not become tarnished ions stemming from steel, steel’s surface are observable. Furthermore, technological limitations discussed, including restrictions regarding point certain combinations.

Laser Scanning Confocal Microscopy

Laser scanning confocal microscopy has become an invaluable tool for a wide range of investigations in the biological and medical sciences for imaging thin optical sections in living and fixed specimens ranging in thickness up to 100 micrometers. Modern instruments are equipped with 3-5 laser systems controlled by high-speed acousto-optic tunable filters (AOTFs), which allow very precise regula...

Confocal laser scanning microscopy.

Many technological advancements of the past decade have contributed to improvements in the photon efficiency of the confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). The resolution of images from the new generation of CLSMs is approaching that achieved by the microscope itself because of continued development in digital imaging methods, laser technology and the availability of brighter and more photos...

Oral Biofilm Analysis of Palatal Expanders by Fluorescence In-Situ Hybridization and Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy

Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) of natural heterogeneous biofilm is today facilitated by a comprehensive range of staining techniques, one of them being fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). We performed a pilot study in which oral biofilm samples collected from fixed orthodontic appliances (palatal expanders) were stained by FISH, the objective being to assess the three-dimensio...

Confocal Scanning Laser Microscopy of Polymer Coatings

A new nondestructive technique, confocal scanning laser microscopy (CSLM), is described which is used to characterize the topography and morphology of polymer coatings. The topography of the coating can be determined even when the coating is completely opaque. When the coating is not completely opaque, CSLM has the distinct advantage of also being able to distinguish between the coating surface...
